I started “No Macarena” DJ & Custom Music Service 13 years ago, when I retired from radio and had a baby (who is now taller than I am!).  I used to DJ and Program at WXPN/Philly, home of the World Café.   I wanted to create an alternative to the typical wedding DJ experience, mainly 'cause I just didn’t see myself as that DJ out on the floor leading the conga line, you know?   So you won’t hear "The Macarena", "Electric Slide", "Hokey Pokey", "Chicken Dance," "Celebration," that sort of thing.  We’ll take our cue on the rest from you.

Over the years, I’ve put together a wonderful staff of DJs and we’ve established a collective style.  Our presentation is pretty low-key.  No props, banners, excessive on mic chatting.  Our DJs are music junkies, just like many of our clients.  We all love an energetic night on the dance floor, but we also know how to pull back a bit if you want something more mellow.    The DJs provide professional sound systems and back- up equipment.   They have good table manners and look good in suits too.

What we’re really known for is providing a custom music mix that reflects your taste and personality, while appealing  to your guests and creating a fun, memorable  event for everyone.

No Mac DJs have backgrounds in radio, event promotions, dance instruction, music production, engineering and playing in bands.  I’m lucky to be surrounded by such talented, interesting and dependable people.    Who look good in suits.

This year we have the distinction of being voted “Best Philly DJ” in The Knot magazine and web site (www.theknot.com) .   Thank-you, brides and grooms for your kind words, it means a lot.   We also did the Phillies holiday party, although alas, Cliff Lee wasn’t in attendance.   We helped make well over 100 couples happy in 2010, and look forward to doing it again this year.   Cheers!    Kim Alexander
